Hibiscus: Hibiscus is the favourite flower of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Kali, and all forms of amman. Offering hibiscus to God blesses one with prosperity and remove obstacles and negative spirits in home. One of the sturdiest plants, I have grown, hibiscus is my personal all-time favourite. These flowers are available in a myriad of colours and the plants are big, bright, and perfect for offering to Gods. You can grow them in pots in terraces and balconies as well. Place them in direct sunlight and these plants can live for years giving you flowers for daily pooja.
Some attention that you will need to know for growing hibiscus is that – these plants are prone to mealy bugs and those white sticky flies. Hence, you need to spray insecticide or pest control every 15 days to keep them in check. When cared well, they can continue for a decade in full bloom.

Jasmine is another woody plant. But, you cannot expect flowers all through the year. They flowers during the summer and need direct sunlight for 6 hours which may be a little challenging for those living in flats. However, they need to heavily fed with organic fertilizers for constant blooming.
Arali/Oleander: Arali flowers are the most favourite of all amman, Durgai amman, and Lord Murugan. Chevvarali in particular are the most loved ones by Kali and Murugan samy. They are also available as single petals or as adukku ones. I have a single-petaled pink one. However, they bloom occasionally and are not thriving; just surviving. Shankapushpi: Shankapushpi is the favourite flower of Lord Shiva and Varahi amman. This easy to grow plant blooms flowers in white and blue; blue shankapushpi being the most common. They can be easily grown from seeds. While shankapushpi plants are commonly found in Bangalore houses, very few plants shops sell them. The seeds are encapsulate in pods and are easy to germinate and grow well in most conditions. As with all flowering plants, shankapushpi too need direct sunlight for long hours.
I do not have this in my balcony but there are a few plants in the neighborhood. People generally pluck the flowers which means they are not any seeds for me to collect. But I will certainly be growing them some day.
Marigold: I have grown these plants with seeds from Namdhari. People in Karnataka don’t offer marigold to Gods but just use in for decoration and hence I do the same despite me being a Tamilian. When they bloom in clusters, it such a blessing to walk into your balcony. However, they are extremely prone to white pests that build web like structures and I was a terrible at growing marigold.
