Valarpirai Varahi Amman Pooja at home

It is a human tendency to think and pray a lot little more about God when they are in trouble. Being a human being, I am not exception. This month, Valarpirai Panchami thithi came on a weekday(Friday). Being a working mom, I was thinking if I would be able to do the pooja in the evening. But then came a call at around 9.30 AM and heard some gossips about me, cried, felt bad, and wanted to seek justice. oh yeah! now, that’s enough to do Valarpirai Varahi Amman Poojai :D. I was skeptical if I should do archanai pooja or abhishekam pooja or simply sit in silence and pray with full devotion. These thoughts went on till 8.00 PM and then decided to do Abhishekam pooja with the things that I had handy

I chose five items for abhishekam – milk, turmeric water, kumkumam water, vasanai podi powder, and gold ornament for sornabishekam.

I used the hibiscus in my balcony for the regular pooja in the morning and hence, took nandhiyavattai poo for offering to Varahi Amman.

I offered some fruits.

Invoked varahi Amman on the kuthu vilakku.

Then, we used Panchakavya vilakku for dhoop.

Valarpirai Varahi Amman Pooja At Home

Later, this is how I did Varahi Amman pooja at home.

1. Made a raised altar and placed amman statue on a plate over a red cloth,
2. Placed Ganesha statue as well.
3. Arranged all the things and lighted the dhiya and dhoop.
4. Prayed to Ganesha, then kula deivam, then to all the planets (kol aru padhigam), and then to ishta deivam.
5. Then, made a sankalp.
6. Later, performed the abhishekam. It is suggested to keep the bells ringing throughout the pooja.
7. After every abhishekam, performed dheep and dhoop arathi.
8. Recited Varahi Gayatri mantra (Om Mahishadwajayai Vidmahe version as my kids know this) 108 times and Varahi Moola Mantra (21 times).
9. Ended the prayer with mangalam.
10. The Abhishekam water was spread across the house and for the plants.

This is definitely not an elaborate pooja but definitely loved the whole experience of doing Varahi amman pooja at home with my girls. Next time, I hope to be more prepared and offer more elaborate neivediyum for Mother Varahi with all her favourites like sweet potato, pomegranate and urad dhal vada.
