Aindhu Karathanai ஐந்து கரத்தனை meaning

Most devotional songs in tamil have a “kaapu” at the beginning. Say, we have “துதிப்போர்க்கு வல்வினைபோம்” in kandha sashti kavacham, தாரமர் கொன்றையும் சண்பகமாலையும் in Abirami Anthathi. Similarly, ஐந்து கரத்தனை யானை முகத்தனை is the காப்பு stanza of Thirumandhiram which was written by Thirumoolar. Let’s learn the Aindhu Karathanai ( ஐந்து கரத்தனை) meaning in this post.

Ainthu Karathanai lyrics in Tamil

ஐந்து கரத்தனை யானை முகத்தனை
இந்தின் இளம் பிறை போலும் எயிற்றனை
நந்தி மகன் தனை ஞானக் கொழுந்தினைப்
புந்தியில் வைத்தடி போற்று கின்றேனே !!

ஐந்து கரத்தனை ( Aindhu Karathanai meaning )

ஐந்து கரத்தனை யானை முகத்தனை
The Lord Ganesha who has five hands (four hands and one trunk which is also considered as a hand here) and an elephant face

இந்தின் இளம் பிறை போலும் எயிற்றனை
just like a young growing moon

நந்தி மகன் தனை
Lord Vinayakar who is Lord Shiva’s son

ஞானக் கொழுந்தினைப்
Lord Pillayar, the tender budding person who is full of wisdom

புந்தியில் வைத்தடி போற்று கின்றேனே !!
The Lord Ganesha is placed eternally within our hearts and we worship Him for ever!!

Other simple Ganesha mantras that you can chant every day are , Paalum Theli Thaenum, Kai Thalam Nirai Kani, Thiruvaakum sei karumam, Vinayagar Agaval and Vaakundaam Nalla Manam Undaam. While doing pooja for Ganesha, try to offer erukkum poo (Arka in Hindi) and some Arugampul to get His abundant blessings. Chant all these songs on auspicious days like Chathurthi and Sankatahara Chathurthi for maximum benefits.

Ii just had the same thought lately ! Here nandhi means the person who holds nandhi as a vehicle , his son means lord Shiva son . Yet I’m still not convinced cuz shiva himself don’t know he had a son like vinayak . Nandhi was charge of Kailash while shiva abscond .

Hi.. Happy to hear your thoughts! How about the word “nandi” here to be interpreted as “Nandishwara” which is name for Lord Shiva. I am open to constructive discussion in the comments. Lets have some spiritual conversation!

Happy to read that, i agree your point ,Tamil poets exactly mean the same and its just a wordplay in some cases . Tamil poets were highly egoistic and they take more pride on representing their loving god and so it shows no disrespect when they use such words , like if you listen ARUPADAI VEEDU KONDA THIRUMURUGA , the poet call shiva as Velli pani thalaiyar , haha you will understand these words in many poetric
