I had recently joined Amazon as a Senior Product Compliance Associate in Amazon. All thanks to the powerful Ganesha mantra for job – Om Gum Gaum Ganapathayae Vigna Vinashinae Swaha! As a content writer, the job description of this role was completely Greek and Latin when I first saw it. But the Preferred qualification of the role was just 2-4 years of experience with good analytical and communication skills and hence, I had applied for it. Also, since it was Amazon, I blindly went for it and by God’s grace got the offer as well. All through the interview process until the day I joined Amazon Bangalore, i used to search a lot about the role but did not get any clear picture of the job. So, if you are one such person who is planning to apply for this role or have secured an offer for this role, I believe this role with help you get a glimpse of the role.
Compliance Operations in Amazon is a huge non-tech process where they hire engineers mostly from all disciplines. Any product of Amazon is strictly adhered to the compliance of its particular niche – Dangerous Goods, AWS, Travel related compliance, etc etc Okay, let me stop being so corporate and I will explain you in simple terms of what I do. When you travel by air, you might have seen boarding passes with signs on what is not allowed in the check-in baggage of the airlines. You might see terms like power banks, chargers, corrosives etc. So, when Amazon ships its products by air domestically within any nation or across international borders, it is important that the product is packed, stored, and despatched according to the global travel and shipment guidelines. So, every product that is sold in Amazon is classified manually according to the preset SOPs. So, manual classification of each and every product is basically what I do.
This classification is only a fraction of the compliance processes. As I had mentioned earlier, you might fall under Travel Compliance, AWS compliance, or any other process.
