Vaikasi Visagam is the birthday of Lord Murugan. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva and Parvati wanted a son who would be strong and powerful, and who would protect the world from evil. Shiva prayed to Lord Brahma, who granted him a boon. Shiva then took a flaming seed from his third eye and placed it in a pot of water. All the six babies who were born out of fire sparks from Lord Shiva got merged into a beautiful child when Goddess Parvati lovingly held them all together. I started doing Vaikasi Visagam Pooja at my home only in the recent years. To be precise,I started it only during the Corona period in 2020.

Benefits of doing Vaikasi Visagam Pooja at Home
Murugan is one God who blesses the devotee instantly and abundantly. Particularly, if you have some wishes for your kids or wish for a kids itself, then this is absolutely an auspicious day to do Murugan pooja at home. You can also ask for good health and good marital life on this day. Doing pooja on this day also removes black magic and negativity from one’s life.
How to Do Vaikasi Visagam Pooja At Home
-Clean the pooja shelf, lamps, idols, and photo frames a day prior itself.
-Apply turmeric/sandalwood paste and kumkum tilak for all the pictures and idols.
-Wake up early and take a bath.
-Offer 6 ghee dhiyas for Lord Murugan.
-Decorate Lord Murugan pictures or idols lavishly with Oleander flowers. If you don’t get oleander, offer any flower that you get.
-Offer milk and a sweet (Chakkara Pongal) as Neivediyam.
-Light incense sticks.
-If you have an idol or vel, do abhishekam with milk, honey, fruits, and panchamirtham. If you have only a picture, offer a tumbler of milk.
-Do aarti and pray soulfully.
-Sing songs like Kandha Sashti Kavasam, Kandha Guru Kavasam, Kandhar Anubhudhi or any devotional song dedicated to Lord Murugan. You can also sing Murugan Gayatri Mantra
-All through the day, keep chanting “Om Saravana Bhava Om”
Those who can can fast for the whole day by consuming fruits and milk and end the fast after evening prayer. You can also visit any nearby Murugan temple, and get His complete blessings. If you are in Bangalore, so consider visiting the ancient Subramanya Swamy Temple in Ulsoor which is located very close to the Ulsoor metro station.
