What is Sani Mahapradosham?
The Pradhosham that comes on Saturday is referred to as Sani Mahapradosham. Fasting and doing Shiva pooja on Sani Pradhosham days is belived to bring exponential blessings of Lord Shiva than observing fasting and doing poojas on the regular Pradhosham days.
How to do Sani Mahapradosham Pooja:
It is highly auspicious to visit any Shiva Temple during the Pradhosham hours (4.30 PM – 6.00 PM) and participate in the Pradhosham pooja. You can offer flowers, and milk to the temple and they will use it for abishekam and alankaram. You can also light Ghee dhiyas for Lord Shiva and get his blessings.
How to do Sani Mahapradhosham at home?

- Clean the shivling and keep it ready for the pooja.
- Place the shivling on the altar.
- keep the things for the abhishekam ready. For my pooja, I had taken milk, curd, and one fruit (pomegranate).
- light a dhiya (use ghee if possible) and incense stic
- Offer betel leaves and nut.
- First invoke the blessings of lord Ganesha to remove any obstacles that may come in the way of the Sani mahapradosha pooja.
- Then, pray to your kula devta, and ishta devta.
- Then, do a sankalp. Think about the thing/reason why you are doing this pooja for.
- Then start doing the abishekam by chanting the Maha Mriyunjay mantra, or simply Om Namashivaya!
- The process of abishekam is as follows – first pour the abishekam thing on the shivling slowly. Make sure it covers the whole of shivling. Then, keep turmeric and kumkum for the shivling. Do karpoor aarti and dhoop aarti. Then clean the shivling with water. Then, repeat the process with next abishekam thing.
- Then, you can sing all the sings that you know about lord Shiva like Maasil veenaiyum, valaindhadhu villu, Sivapuram. You can also chant “Om namashivaya” or Shiva Gayatri Mantra108 times.
- All throughout the ring bells continuously.

- Finally end the pooja by singing Mangalam.
