Maha Prathyangira Devi Amavasya Homa

June 28, 2023 by Vidhyaa 6 Comments

Prathyangira Devi is one of the most powerful or ugra forms of Devi Parvati who is worshipped by millions of devotees to overcome problems like black magic, evil spirits, negativity, dark spell cast, and all similar stuff. Worshipping Devi Prathyangira relieves one from such hardships caused by externally sent forces and Devi Prathyangira Amma keeps Her devotees protected from evil clutches. The most unique thing about Devi Prathyangira pooja is the Amavasya homa during which several hundred big big basket of red chilli are offered to the homa fire. Doing so removes the black magic is the belief.

In her mantras, you can see words like chatru nashini which means the One Who Destroys Enemies. So, participating in this homa is highly reverential and a blessing every devotee has to experience. This red-chilli Amavasya homa happens in all Prathyangira Devi temples – big or small at a very grand scale. Usually, some people book for this home by paying amounts like 25,000 / 50,000 etc. Apart from this, commoners can also participate by paying nominal fees of 101, 501 etc etc.

Benefits of Attending Amavasya Prathyangira Devi Homa at Temple

I was told that being present in the temple during the pooja engulfs one with positivity and the smoke from the homa cleanses one’s aura and removes any evil spell or black magic cast on a person.

These poojas are done on the Amavasya days in the evening time. It usually starts at about 7.00 PM or so and goes on until 8.30 – 9.30 PM. I recently was blessed to visit the Prathyangira Devi Temple at Tin Factory. The one that is just by the Tin Factory skywalk and is currently being renovated. The temple has shrines of Prathyangira Devi, Kala Bhairavar, Melmaruvathur Adi Parashakthi, and one more Amman (not sure who it is). Kala Bhairavar and Prathyagira Devi statues are placed facing each other. When I went there around 7.00 PM or so, the homa was happening and there was a huge rush.

So, we offered our prayers and visited the Muthu Mariamman Temple beside this temple. Later, we came back to the Prathyangira temple. At that time, the homa was over. So, went again and stood in the queue, offered prayers to Prathyangira Devi and other amman. Near the other amman opposite Adiparashakthi shrine, few people were giving us a handful of red chillies (to kids as well). We can get them, rotate it around our heads in clockwise direction for about three times, and put it in the homa fire which was still blazing but at a lesser intensity.

With a strong hope that my problems would end soon and a heart full of gratitude for giving me this experience, to participate in this powerful Prathyangira pooja at temple, I came back home.

      Hi Nalini
Let me make it clear to you that I am no expert to advice you. But I strongly believe in one thing – that God listens even to the humblest of prayers when done with sincere heart. If you are in sync with that thought, please read the next few lines of how I prayed to Varahi amman before buying the picture and idol. I used to keep a separate lamp for Varahi amman in ceramic that has 5 faces and invoke the Goddess in that lamp. Start with prayer to Ganesha, then to Kula devta, then ishta deivam, and then invite Varahi Amman to bestow her blessing by invoking in the lamp. Make a sankalpam of what blessing you want. Chant her mantras and conclude with aarti and mangalam. This is how I do. As a bonus info, coming Nov 2 is Theipirai Panchami.
