Red Hibiscus: One of the most common flowers found in most Indian houses, red hibiscus is one of the favourite flowers of Lord Ganesha. Red hibiscus flowers are believed to bring prosperity, good luck, and protection.
Jasmine: It is generally auspicious to offer sweet-smelling plants to God and Jasmine tops the list. It is believed to bring peace and tranquility, and it is often used in religious ceremonies. Ganesha is said to be particularly fond of jasmine flowers, and offering them to him is believed to bring his blessings of wisdom and knowledge.
Parijatha: Another common flower found in Indian houses, these flowers possess a strong fragrance and fill the air with their sweet smell when in full bloom. The story behind this is that this flower had emerged when the oceans were churning and therefore Lord Indra brought it with him to heaven. A few things to note while offering flowers to Gods:
Always offer freshly-picked flowers that are not damaged / have holes/ look withered.
Do not smell the flowers before offering them to God.
Do not wash the flowers. Just sprinkle some water before offering.
Simple Ganesha mantras that you can chant every day while offering flowers are Aindhu Karathanai, Paalum Theli Thaenum, Kai Thalam Nirai Kani and Vaakundaam Nalla Manam Undaam.
