1. ஞானமும் நல்வித்தையும் பெற
உதிக்கின்ற செங்கதிர், உச்சித்திலகம், உணர்வுடையோர்
மதிக்கின்ற மாணிக்கம், மாதுளம் போது, மலர்க்கமலை
துதிக்கின்ற மின்கொடி, மென்கடிக்குங்கும தோயமென்ன
விதிக்கின்ற மேனி அபிராமி என்தன் விழுத்துணையே.
1. The benefit of reciting this stanza – To gain wisdom and knowledge
In this stanza, the virtues and physical attributes of Abirami Amman are described by Abirami Pattar
- உதிக்கின்ற செங்கதிர் – Abirami Amman is described as the red rays of the rising sun
- உச்சித்திலகம் – the Tilak that is applied on the forehead (partition in the hair where married women usually keep kumkum)
- உணர்வுடையோர் மதிக்கின்ற மாணிக்கம்: The precious ruby stone who is praised, respected and worshipped by those with high reverential inclination
- மாதுளம் போது – The one whose skin tone is like the petals of pomegranate flower
- மலர்க்கமலை துதிக்கின்ற மின்கொடி: “Malar kamalai” here means Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi who sit on the Lotus flower. Abirami Amman is worshipped by both Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati and she looks like a lightning flash.
- மென்கடிக்குங்கும தோயமென்ன விதிக்கின்ற மேனி – The one who has a divine, subtle fragrance and a complexion like that of the saffron flower
- அபிராமி என்தன் விழுத்துணையே – Abirami Amman is my unfailing support.
If you remember, we had earlier mentioned that Andhadhi means, the last word of one stanza will be the beginning of the next stanza. Now, this first poem ends with the word “Thunai”. Now, you can see that the next poem with begin with the word “Thunai”
