How to celebrate VaraMahalakshmi Pooja at home

September 25, 2017 by Vidhyaa Leave a Comment

Vara Lakshmi Pooja is celebrated on the Second Friday or the Friday before full moon day – Poornima in the month of Śravaṇā, also called Śawan in Hindi, which corresponds to the English months of July–August.

On the day of the pooja, get up early in the morning and shampoo your hair.
The most important thing in Varalakshmi Pooja is decorating the idol or the kalasam.
Buy a coconut and nicely layer it with turmeric powder. Let it dry. Fill the kalasam three fourth with raw rice, dry fruits and a few gold jewels. Place odd number of mango leaves on the mouth of the kalasam. Place the coconut over this. Now tie the amman’s face over the coconut. Lakshmi’s face is available in various materials and sizes.  Pick one of your choice.Place three dot on the kalasam with turmeric paste and keep a round with kumkum over the turmeric paste. Now dress for Lakshmi and lavishly adorn her with chains and studs.

Before place the kalasam on the elevated stand, first make a pidi pillayar(Lord Gamesha) of turmeric. Make a kumkum potty for him and offer flowers. Then keep him aside on the elevated stand.
Then place the kalasam on the elevated place.
Place two small banana plants on either sides of the kalasam.

Offer fruits like apple, banana and orange.
Offer betel leaves and paaku.
Offer money and jewels.
Offer home made sweets.
Offer bangles.
Offer water, honey and milk.
Them light the diyas.
Sing hymns to goddess Lakshmi.
Invite three married women to your house and give them blouse bits, fruits, flowers, prasad, betel leaves and paaku.
The next day, you have to take bath and then you can remove the kalasam.
