Vaikasi Visagam is the day on which Lord Muruga was born. All the six babies who were born out of fire sparks from Lord Shiva got merged into a beautiful child when Goddess Parvati lovingly held them all together. This day is extremely auspicious for Murugan devotees and many people across various parts of the world fulfill their vows to Lord Muruga by taking PalKudam, Kavadi, and Patha Yathirai. This year, Vaikasi Visagam falls on June 4, 2020.

How to do Vaiakasi Visagam Pooja at home

Clean the pooja shelf, lamps, idols, and photo frames a day prior itself.

Apply turmeric/sandalwood paste and kumkum tilak for all the pictures and idols.

On June 4, wake up early and take a bath.

Offer 6 ghee dhiyas for Lord Murugan.

Lord Murugan love chevvarali flowers (red Nerium Oleander flowers). And so, decorate him lavishly with Oleander flowers. If you don’t get oleander, offer any flower that you get.

Offer milk and a sweet (Chakkara Pongal) as Neivediyam.

Light incense sticks.

If you have an idol, do abhishekam with milk, honey, fruits, and panchamirtham. If you have only a picture, offer a tumbler of milk.

Do aarti and pray soulfully.

Sing songs like Kandha Sashti Kavasam, Kandha Guru Kavasam or any devotional song dedicated to Lord Murugan.

All through the day, keep chanting “Om Saravana Bhava Om”

Those who can can fast for the whole day by consuming fruits and milk and end the fast after evening prayer.
